Our first meeting can be as informal as a cup of tea at a local bookstore. It is designed to be a time for us to get to know each other and for you to ask as many questions as you wish. There is no charge for this initial interview and you have no obligation at this time to use our services. If you feel we are a good match, we can schedule your first prenatal visit. We will provide you with contact information; and, we will be available for questions by phone or by email whenever you need us.
Our prenatal services include the following: 2 prenatal meetings and 1 prenatal visit to your healthcare provider.
- Informational binder about pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding, postpardum, as well as many other useful topics
- Provide information & resources specific to your pregnancy and birth goals
- Ask and answer a ton of questions
- Birth Plan consultation
- Practice breathing and relaxation techniques
- Review and finalize Birth Plan
- Discuss signs of labor and when to call
This is the time for your provider to meet your doula. It will ensure he/she knows who she is during your birth. At this time, she can assist you in presenting your birth plan to your provider and discuss any concerns you may have with him/her.
Beginning with your 38th week to delivery, she will be available by phone. Call any time 24 hours a day when you think you may be in labor. Available at any hour to meet you at your home or at the hospital once you are in labor and feel you need her.
- Early labor support at your home or the hospital
- Suggestions of positions and activities to help your labor progress
- Breathing and relaxation techniques
- Massage and acupressure for relaxation
- Provide explanation of medical terms and procedures
- Suggest birth positions
- Take pictures/videos and record your birth story (optional)
She will stay with you immediately after your baby is born to ensure that you both are comfortable with breastfeeding and newborn care. She will discuss any questions you may have. Once you feel comfortable, she will leave you to bond with your baby. Should you need anything, she will be available to return at your request.
She will leave it up to the mother to call and schedule a time and date for this visit. She will discuss breastfeeding progress and newborn care. She will review the birth. She will provide a written birth story for your records.
Once you meet our group of doulas and decide if we are for you, we can then discuss our fees. We range anywhere from just gas money for doulas that are certifying to $475 for experienced certified doulas.
We at Atlanta Doulas feel that every mother could benefit by having a birth doula. We have an assistance program for those that qualify financially. Please contact us for details.
